High Quality, Inclusive Teaching

Framework for high quality inclusive teaching

Research and classroom experience consistently point to the same conclusion: high quality teaching is the most powerful lever we have for delivering inclusive education.

High quality teaching at The Bewl Federation draws on research from the EEF and papers such as, ‘Inclusive Teaching – Securing Strong Educational Experiences and Outcomes for All Students’ by Steplab. Five principles emerge:

  1. Embrace Cognitive Similarity
  2. Prioritise High-Impact Core Instruction
  3. Make Lessons Accessible by Default
  4. Adapt Minimally & Appropriately
  5. Empower Effective Teacher Assessment

Using these principles, a shared model of the learning process (adapted from Dan Willingham by Tom Sherrington and Oliver Caviglioli), and Steplab’s Simple Model of Teaching, we have created a framework for high quality, inclusive teaching. This shapes professional learning and quality assurance, supporting all practitioners to continually develop their practice.
